frequently asked questions
CAN I TRY A CLASS FIRST BEFORE COMMITTING TO THE TERM?
Yes at JKDC we offer one free trial to “try before you buy.” There is no obligation to enroll.
I WANT TO BUY THE DANCE-WEAR, WHERE CAN I DO THIS?
We have two online shops for dance-wear. One is for class wear such as ballet shoes, tap shoes, leotards and tights and one is for the JKDC merchandise such as branded hoodies and t-shirts. There is also a second hand dance-wear for sale page on Facebook. Please remember that when ordering ballet shoes you need to order one size up from your regular shoe size. Please do not hesitate to ask your class teachers any questions before placing an order.

WHERE CAN I ACCESS CURRENT INFORMATION AND ANY UPDATES?
We have a private Facebook group called “Jaykays Students and Parents.” Please search for this on Facebook and send a request to join. You will be prompted by a couple of questions so we can validate that you are a JKDC parent and then you will be approved. We use this group as a noticeboard and it is a great way to keep in the loop!
MY CHILD CANNOT MAKE A CLASS DUE TO ILLNESS, WHO AND HOW DO I INFORM?
Please drop your leading class teacher a quick text or email to let them know if your child cannot make class. Please do not use the JKDC Parents and Students Facebook group to do this.

DO YOU PUT ON AN ANNUAL SHOW?
Yes our annual show takes place every March at The Spa Centre. All classes are involved in this event apart from our Little Rascals pre-school dance classes. Teachers and students work incredibly hard towards this and it demands a great deal of commitment from everyone involved.
HOW OFTEN WILL MY CHILD TAKE EXAMINATIONS?
We are members of the International Dance Teacher’s Association (IDTA) and offer students the opportunity to take graded examinations, medal tests and rosette exams. We have two exam sessions a year and your child may not necessarily be entered at both sessions. Teachers will only enter students when they feel that they are 100% ready.
DO WE HAVE TO PAY FOR EXAMINATIONS?
Yes there is an exam entry fee which is put in place by the IDTA, we also need to ensure we have covered overheads involved to put the exam session on such as staff wages and venue costs. Exam fees vary dramatically according to the type of exam. We do have an exam fee document that can be sent to you if you’d like it. We always invoice around 1 month before an exam session and ask for exam fees to be paid in full two weeks before the session is due to take place.
MY CHILD IS IN THE LITTLE RASCALS CLASS, WHEN WILL I SEE THEM DANCE?
Our Little Rascals put on two class displays a year. Once in the summer and once at Christmas. This is usually done on a Sunday where you are invited to bring friends and family to watch your little one perform! There is an entry fee to take part in these events.
MY CHILD NO LONGER WISHES TO CONTINUE WITH CLASSES, HOW DO I CANCEL OUR ENROLMENT?
Please inform us ASAP if your child wishes to stop their classes at JKDC. Your current invoice needs to have been paid in full and we are always happy for students to continue with their classes for the entire term that has been paid for. Our Terms and Conditions give further details about cancelling your child’s place.
MY CHILD WAS A NEW STARTER THIS TERM. WE WOULD LIKE THEM TO CONTINUE NEXT TERM, HOW DO WE ENROL THEM?
At JKDC we operate on an automatic enrolment system. We will assume that students will continue with their current classes unless we hear otherwise. An invoice for the following term will be prepared for you unless you have told us that your child is not continuing the following term. Please do let us know if this is the case as it saves us a lot of wasted administration time.
I HAVE TWINS WHO WOULD BOTH LIKE TO DANCE, DO YOU OFFER SIBLING DISCOUNT?
Yes we offer a very generous 50% sibling discount to the lowest paying sibling. If there are 3 siblings 2 students will attend at full price and again the lowest paying of the 3 will receive the 50% discount. This discount is applied for fees only. It does not include extra payments for exam entry, show rehearsal fees etc.
